Haiden Deegan’s 450 debut and strong Lawrence pace at Fox Raceway; Romain Febvre and McLellan top qualifying as the MXGP title fight stays tight in Germany
Season-opening form checks: Hunter Lawrence sets pace; Haiden Deegan launches his 450 campaign
The 2026 Pro Motocross season opened at Fox Raceway on May 30. Hunter Lawrence posted the day’s top speed in the 450 class — leading combined qualifying sessions and taking Moto 1 — marking Honda’s immediate presence at the front. Haiden Deegan rode his first Pro Motocross 450 program day with competitive pace: sixth in the combined qualifying classification and running inside the top five in Moto 1, a promising start for his transition to the class. In the 250 class Levi Kitchen won the opening moto and will be one to track as the series moves on. These opening results matter because early moto wins and qualifying control influence gate picks and confidence going into a long outdoor season.
Febvre and McLellan top qualifying as the world championship remains tight; paddock shows support for injured rider
Qualifying at Teutschenthal on May 30 produced notable morning headlines: Romain Febvre took his first qualifying win of 2026 in MXGP while McLellan claimed his first qualifying victory in MX2. MXGP’s event pages underline that the world title race remains finely poised — Lucas Coenen carries the red plate and Jeffrey Herlings remains only marginally behind — so Sunday’s races at the Talkessel will be decisive. The paddock also circulated ‘TB9: Stay Strong’ stickers in visible support of Thibault Benistant as he continues to recover from recent injuries; that human element has become part of the weekend story. MXGP published the qualifying wrap and the official TV schedule for the weekend.
