Eli Tomac has confirmed that he will step away from professional competition after the 2026 SMX World Championship post-season. His final appearance is scheduled to come at the SMX Final in Ridgedale, Missouri, on September 26.
The announcement arrives with three post-season rounds remaining, ensuring that Tomac’s retirement will not be a quiet exit after the fact. His final weeks will unfold in competition with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, giving him one last opportunity to pursue race wins before ending a career that began with his winning professional debut at Hangtown in 2010.
Tomac’s record places the decision among the defining developments of the current SMX season. He owns two AMA Supercross 450SX championships, four AMA Pro Motocross 450MX titles, 57 career 450SX main-event victories and 32 career 450MX overall wins. He also won the 2013 250MX title, the 2012 250SX West championship and the 2024 FIM World Supercross SX1 crown.
Those achievements establish the scale of the departure, but the timing keeps the story rooted in the present. Tomac still has a final post-season to race, and every remaining gate drop now carries both competitive consequences and the knowledge that one of the discipline’s benchmark careers is nearing its end.
